今回、ラテは7頭の子犬を出産しました。
死産だった子、生まれてきてくれたけれど、その後亡くなってしまった子。
保温をして、授乳を補助して、生きてほしいと、できることを続けました。
それでも、どれだけ手を尽くしても人の力ではどうにもできないことがあります。
今、残っているのはこの子だけです。
ラテは母乳はしっかり出ていますが、自分から育児を続けることが難しいため、今はそばで支えながら授乳をさせています。
そして、この子には一緒に寄り添う兄弟姉妹がいません。
本来なら兄弟姉妹同士でくっついて温まることができますが、それもできないため、ヒーターを使って保温を補助しています。
繁殖は、無事に生まれたら終わりではありません。
経験を積んでも、知識を増やしても、すべての命を助けられるわけではない。
何度経験しても、どうにもできないことがあります。
今日で生後5日。
まだ「大丈夫」と言える時期ではありません。
それでも、この小さな身体で一生懸命お乳を飲んで、生きています。
この子が生きようとしている限り、私たちも今できることを続けます。

Latte gave birth to seven puppies.
Some were stillborn.
Others were born alive, but sadly did not survive.
We kept them warm, assisted with nursing, and did everything we could, hoping they would make it.
But sometimes, no matter how much we do, there are lives we simply cannot save.
Now, this is the only puppy remaining.
Latte is producing enough milk, but she has difficulty continuing to care for the puppy on her own, so we stay beside her and assist with nursing.
This little one also has no siblings to cuddle up with for warmth, so we provide additional warmth with a pet heater.
Breeding does not end when puppies are born.
No matter how much experience or knowledge we gain, we cannot save every life.
Today, this little one is five days old.
It is still too early to say that everything will be okay.
