子犬が生まれると、 「この子かわいい！」 「この子、残したい！」 そう思うことは、もちろんあります😊 毎日成長を見ていると、それぞれに違ったかわいさがあって、「みんな残したい」と思ってしまうことだってあります。 でも、CuddlyAnimalで繁殖候補として残す子を考えるとき、“一番かわいい子”を選んでいるわけではありません。 私が見ているのは、その子の今だけではなく、その先の未来だからです。 「かわいい」は大切。でも、それだけでは決めません 顔が好み。 カラーがきれい。 きょうだいの中で一番大きい、あるいは一番小さい。 人懐っこくて、とてもかわいい。 もちろん、それも全部その子の魅力です。 ただ、繁殖候補として残す場合には、それ以外にもたくさんのことを見ています。 骨格や体格、体のバランス、動き、気質、健康面。 さらに、その子自身だけではなく、両親やきょうだい、血統から見えてくる特徴も考えます。 そして、 「この子を残すことで、次の世代に何をつないでいきたいのか」 そこまで考えて、「残す」という選択につながっていきます。 犬種が違えば、大切にしたいものも違う CuddlyAnimalでは、 イタリアングレーハウンド ウィペット キャバリア・キング・チャールズ・スパニエル ウェルシュ・コーギー・ペンブローク シェットランド・シープドッグ と暮らしています。 すべての犬種をまったく同じ基準で見ているわけではありません。 犬種によって体のつくりも、特徴も、本来持っている気質も違います。 サイトハウンドなら、体のバランスや動き、筋肉、走るための構成。 また別の犬種では、その犬種らしい体型や被毛、気質、家庭犬としての安定性など、大切にしたいポイントも変わってきます。 それぞれの犬種が持つ魅力や犬種らしさを大切にしながら、その先につないでいきたいものを考える。 これがCuddlyAnimalで大切にしていることのひとつです。 子犬一頭だけを見て決めるわけではありません 子犬一頭だけを見れば、とても魅力的に見えることがあります。 でも繁殖を考えるときには、その子だけを見ることはできません。 両親はどんな犬なのか。 きょうだいには、どんな特徴が出ているのか。 その血統では、どんな特徴が受け継がれてきたのか。 そして、現在CuddlyAnimalにいる犬たちにはどんな特徴があるのか。 何を残していきたいのか。 何を補っていきたいのか。 そうしたことを総合的に考えながら、その子の将来を見ています。 「家族として選ぶこと」と「繁殖候補として残すこと」は違う 一般のご家庭が子犬を迎えるとき、 「この顔が好き！」 「この子と目が合った！」 「この子と暮らしたい！」 そんな気持ちは、とても大切だと思っています😊 一方、私が繁殖候補として犬舎に残す子を考えるときには、目的が少し違います。 その子自身の魅力だけではなく、 成犬になったときにどんな姿になるのか。 将来どんな相手との組み合わせを考えられるのか。 そして次の世代に、どんな特徴を残していける可能性があるのか。 そこまで考えます。 だから、きょうだいの中で一番目立つ子を残すとは限りません。 そして当然、残さなかった子の価値が低いという意味でもありません。 繁殖犬として残すことと、家庭犬として幸せに暮らすことは、そもそも比べるものではないと考えています。 どの子にも、それぞれの魅力と、それぞれの未来があります。 今ではなく、10年後を見る 子犬の時期は、本当にかわいいです。 でも、子犬でいる時間は、その犬の一生の中ではほんのわずか。 だから私は、今目の前にいる子犬だけを見るのではなく、成犬になった姿を想像します。 そして、その子から次の世代へ。 さらに、その次の世代へ。 少しずつ積み重ねながら、 健康で、その犬種らしく、安定した気質を持ち、人と一緒に幸せに暮らせる犬たちを未来につないでいきたい。 そう考えています。 流行ではなく、10年後の姿を考えて繁殖しています。 これが、CuddlyAnimalが「残す子」を考えるときに大切にしていることです。 繁殖に対する考え方や目指す犬のタイプは、犬舎によってそれぞれ違います。 これは「どの考え方が正しいか」を決めるための話ではありません。 CuddlyAnimalがどんなことを考えながら犬たちと向き合い、未来につないでいこうとしているのか。 その一部として知っていただけたら嬉しいです😊

How Does CuddlyAnimal Choose a Puppy to Keep for the Future? When puppies are born, of course there are moments when we think: “This puppy is adorable!” “I want to keep this one!” ❤️ When you watch them grow every day, each puppy develops its own personality and charm. Sometimes, we would happily keep them all. However, when CuddlyAnimal considers keeping a puppy as a future breeding prospect, we do not simply choose the cutest puppy in the litter. We are looking beyond the puppy we see today. We are thinking about the future. Cuteness Matters — But It Is Not Everything A beautiful face, an attractive color, size, personality and affection toward people can all be wonderful qualities. But when considering a puppy for our breeding program, we look at much more. We consider structure, body balance, movement, temperament and health. We also look beyond the individual puppy to its parents, siblings and pedigree. Ultimately, we ask ourselves: “What do we hope this dog can contribute to future generations?” That question plays an important role in deciding which dogs remain with us for the future. Different Breeds Have Different Priorities CuddlyAnimal lives with and breeds several breeds, including: Italian Greyhounds, Whippets, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Pembroke Welsh Corgis and Shetland Sheepdogs. We do not evaluate every breed according to exactly the same priorities. Each breed has its own structure, temperament, characteristics and purpose. With sighthounds, for example, movement, balance, musculature and functional structure are especially important to us. Other breeds may have different characteristics that we want to preserve, including breed type, coat, temperament and suitability for life as a family companion. Our goal is to understand and respect what makes each breed unique while considering what we hope to carry forward into future generations. We Look Beyond the Individual Puppy A puppy may be beautiful when viewed on its own. But responsible breeding requires us to look at the bigger picture. What are the parents like? What characteristics are appearing among the siblings? What strengths and weaknesses have appeared within the pedigree? What qualities already exist within our kennel? What would we like to preserve? And what would we like to improve over future generations? The decision to keep a puppy is made by considering all of these factors together. Choosing a Family Companion and Choosing a Breeding Prospect Are Different When a family chooses a puppy, the feeling of: “I love this puppy.” “This is the one I want to live with.” can be incredibly important. Choosing a future breeding prospect has a different purpose. We need to consider not only the puppy itself, but also the adult it may become, possible future pairings and what qualities may be passed on to future generations. That is why the most eye-catching puppy in a litter is not necessarily the puppy we choose to keep. And it certainly does not mean that puppies we do not keep are somehow less valuable. Every puppy has its own qualities, its own place and its own future. Looking 10 Years Ahead Puppyhood is wonderful — but it represents only a very small part of a dog’s life. When we look at a puppy, we try to imagine the adult dog it may become. Then we think about the next generation. And the generation after that. Step by step, our goal is to continue producing dogs that are healthy, true to their breed, temperamentally stable and able to share happy lives with the people who love them. We do not breed for trends. We breed with the next 10 years — and beyond — in mind. That is the philosophy behind how CuddlyAnimal chooses the dogs we keep for the future. Every breeder and kennel may have different goals and breeding philosophies. This is not about claiming that there is only one correct way. It is simply one part of how we at CuddlyAnimal think about our dogs, our breeding program and the generations still to come.
