イタリアングレーハウンドも年齢を重ねると、少しずつ白い毛が増えていきます。 前回は「どこから白い毛が増えやすいのか」というお話をしましたが、今回はもう一歩踏み込んで、「毛色によって白い毛の見え方は違うのでは？」という、私自身が犬舎で長年感じてきたことをご紹介します。 実際に観察していると、ブラックやシール系の子は白い毛が目立ちやすく、濃いブルーも変化に気付きやすい印象があります。 一方で、明るいブルーやグレー系の子は「いつの間にか白くなっていた」と感じることが多く、フォーン系では白い毛が増えるというより、全体が少しずつ淡くやわらかい印象になっていくように感じる子もいます。 また、ホワイトが入っている子は、もともと白い部分があるため、変化が目立ちにくいこともあります。 もちろん、これは「毛色だけ」で決まるものではありません。 家系や血統、個体差、年齢、生活環境など、さまざまな要素が重なって、それぞれ違った変化を見せてくれます。 実際に犬舎では、頭のてっぺんから白い毛が増えていく子もいれば、口元から変化が始まる子、お尻周りから少しずつ白い毛が混じる子など、本当にさまざまです。 だからこそ、「〇色だから絶対こうなる」とは言えません。 でも、毎日一緒に暮らしながら写真を見返してみると、「こんなところも変わってきたんだね」と、その子だけの成長や歳の重ね方に気付くことができます。 私にとって、こうした変化を観察する時間も、ブリーダーとしての楽しみのひとつです。 イタリアングレーハウンドは同じ犬種でも、一頭一頭まったく違う個性を持っています。 毛色の変化も、その子だけの大切な個性として、これからも楽しみながら見守っていきたいと思います。

Does Coat Color Affect How White Hair Appears in Italian Greyhounds? As Italian Greyhounds grow older, white hairs gradually begin to appear. After observing many Italian Greyhounds over the years, I have noticed that the way these white hairs stand out seems to vary depending on the dog’s coat color. Black and seal-colored dogs often show white hairs more clearly, while darker blue coats also make changes easier to notice. On the other hand, lighter blue or gray dogs often seem to change more gradually, and fawn-colored dogs may appear to become softer and lighter overall rather than showing distinct white hairs. Dogs with larger white markings may also show these changes less obviously. Of course, these are only observations from daily life at our kennel. Many factors, including genetics, family lines, age, individual differences, and environment, can influence how each dog changes over time. Some dogs first develop white hairs around the muzzle, others around the ears, and some in completely unexpected places. That is one of the joys of living with this wonderful breed. Every Italian Greyhound ages differently, and those unique changes become part of each dog’s individual story.
