犬について勉強しようと思うと、今はたくさんの情報があります。 本を読んだり、YouTubeを見たり、Googleで調べたり、AIを活用したり。 どれもとても勉強になりますし、私自身も分からないことがあれば調べたり、新しい知識を学んだりしています。 でも、ブリーダーとして長年犬たちと向き合ってきて、一番実感していることがあります。 それは、 「犬は教科書どおりには育たない。」 ということです。 同じ犬種でも性格は違います。 甘えん坊な子もいれば、自立心が強い子もいます。 食べることが大好きな子もいれば、食が細い子もいます。 新しい環境にすぐ慣れる子もいれば、時間をかけて少しずつ慣れていく子もいます。 母犬も同じです。 初めての出産でも自然に子育てを始める子もいれば、人のサポートが必要な子もいます。 母性はあるのに、子育てが少し不器用な子もいます。 だからこそ、「この方法なら必ずうまくいく」と言い切れることは、実はあまり多くありません。 昔、ベテランのブリーダーさんに言われた言葉があります。 「机上ではうまくいく。でも、実際は全然違う。」 その頃の私は、その言葉の意味がよく分かりませんでした。 でも、経験を重ねるたびに、 「ああ、本当にその通りなんだ。」 と思う場面が何度もありました。 だから私は、お客様にもこんなお話をしています。 口コミの良い動物病院でも、自分の愛犬には合わないことがあります。 有名なドッグトレーナーでも、犬種やその子の性格によっては、違う方法が合うこともあります。 本やインターネット、AIから得られる情報も、とても参考になります。 ただ、それだけを「絶対の正解」だと思わないでほしいのです。 教科書は答えではなく、ヒント。 本当に大切なのは、目の前にいるその子自身を見て、その子に合った方法を考えてあげることだと思っています。 犬は、一頭一頭みんな違います。 だからこそ、マニュアルどおりではなく、その子と向き合う時間を大切にしてほしい。 それが、ブリーダーになって私が一番学んだことです。

Dogs Don’t Grow Exactly as the Textbooks Say Today, there is an incredible amount of information available about raising dogs. Books, YouTube, Google, AI… they are all valuable resources, and I continue to learn from them myself. However, after many years as a breeder, there is one lesson that has stayed with me. Dogs don’t grow exactly as the textbooks say. Even within the same breed, every dog is unique. Each has a different personality, different strengths, different fears, and a different pace of learning. The same is true for mother dogs. Some instinctively know how to care for their puppies, while others need gentle support before they gain confidence. Because of this, I don’t believe there is one perfect method that works for every dog. Many years ago, an experienced breeder told me: “Things may work perfectly on paper, but reality is completely different.” At the time, I didn’t fully understand what they meant. Now, after years of experience, I truly do. That’s why I always tell new owners that books, online information, and AI are wonderful guides—but they are not absolute answers. The most important thing is to observe the dog in front of you and understand them as an individual. Every dog is different. And I believe that is what makes living with dogs so rewarding.
